DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP

The Cancer Support Community, an international nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., is looking for an organized and energetic individual who is passionate about impacting the lives of people touched by cancer for our paid Development and Major Gifts internship. This intern should be enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program, or be a recent graduate, ideally with a focus in either Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline. A minimum of six months experience in one of the previously mentioned focus areas will be considered in place of the educational requirement.


Through this internship you will gain valuable experience in development initiatives including donor cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, CRM database knowledge, grants management, email campaigns, and much more. The ideal candidate for this position is a proactive self-starter, with strong verbal and written communications skills, and a keen interest in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit experience is preferred.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare correspondence and mailings related to donor communications
  • Support donor database management, including accurate donor records, data entry, and database clean-up
  • Manage logistics associated with event planning, including list and vendor management
  • Conduct corporate, foundation, and individual prospect research
  • Prepare donor prospect research profiles
  • Support grant process, including proposal drafting and deadline management
  • Provide general administrative support
  • Support other development-related projects deemed appropriate


Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to conduct all work in an ethical, honest, and professional manner


Hours: 30 - 40 hours per week (flexible hours between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., M-F)
