HonorHealth is looking for a Director of Lab Services for the Shea location. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Shea lab. This includes core lab and anatomical pathology. Maintains staffing levels, responsible for department budget and assures quality lab standards by Policies and procedures for College of American Pathologists accreditation. In order to be successful in this role the ideal candidate must meet the minimum requirements of the role that include Bachelor's degree in a health related field, five (5) years management experience in Laboratory Services operations and MT (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification required. Soft skills that would ensure success in the role includes good communication skills, flexibility along with the ability to collaborate with both internal and external customers. Other essential skills an understanding of the recruitment process, management experience, budget/FTE exposure.

Responsibilities

Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory and Ancillary Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the clinical laboratory for centralized services and all HonorHealth laboratory testing locations outside of hospital facilities. Supports service, quality and financial metric /initiatives as identified by the network and hospital. Actively promotes employee engagement, process improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensures high quality and cost-effective operations through a well-trained technical and support staff.
    Responsible for the posting, interviewing and selection of staff and ensuring appropriate staff mix to provide the level of service.
    Schedules staff in a cost-effective manner to maintain high levels of quality and productivity while meeting productivity measures.
    Oversees and coordinates technical and support responsibilities to provide high quality services that align with network initiatives.
    Demonstrates teamwork, initiative, fairness and flexibility in providing support and leadership for all shifts.
    Develops a team focus with Supervisors, peers and customers that support communication and effective working relationships in accordance with HonorHealth's mission and vision.
    Responsible for resolving personnel issues within lab department in alignment with HonorHealth and laboratory policies.
    Responsible for accurate and objective performance evaluations, feedback, training and competencies.
  • Quality and Regulatory Responsibilities.
    Develops, implements, aligns and reviews laboratory operating policies and procedures and ensures they are in accordance with both organization policies and requirements of regulatory agencies.
    Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and appropriate licensing/accrediting agencies in areas of service, personnel and facilities.
    Works with laboratory network, AVP and Quality Manager to establish and monitor standards of quality, productivity and performance.
    Helps monitor a comprehensive and effective quality assurance program including quality control, preventive maintenance, safety program, data, material management and quality of service with emphasis on process improvement and their laboratory location(s).
    Implements and monitors appropriate data collection for information systems.
    Evaluates and implements new products for quality, effectiveness, safety and cost containment.
    Promotes and practices that provide quality customer services
  • Employee Engagement and Customer Support
    Encourages and promotes development for department personnel and develops a long term succession plan
    Conducts routine meetings and updates with department staff.
    Actively seeks out feedback and continually works on employee engagement initiatives.
    Functions as a resource for physicians and medical directors as appropriate.
    Works collaboratively with the Medical and Pathology group and other key hospital stakeholders to pursue departmental, network and organizational goals.
    Ensures all network and HonorHealth polices are followed.
  • Finance, Budget and Capital
    Recommends and responsible for budget information for capital expenditures, operating expenses and revenue.
    Monitors, analyses and corrects variance against budget on an ongoing basis. Analyzes fiscal needs and prepares justification as necessary.
    Works to ensure that staff provides accurate data, reporting and billing.
    Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
  • Strategy and Planning
    Works with AVP and hospital VP to formulate site and network specific short and long range goals for the clinical laboratory. Projects future needs for service, space, equipment, material, revenue and personnel. Determines, establishes, implements and evaluates short and long range financial management.
