The purpose of this position is to operate and monitor the treatment plant to ensure all Federal and State regulations and standards are met. A water treatment plant operator is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of drinking water. The plant operator is responsible for operating and maintaining various equipment and processes in water. The treatment plant process includes coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. The operator monitors water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, and chlorine levels to ensure that water is safe for consumption. In addition to the plant, the operator is also responsible for monitoring and adjusting the production and distribution system via SCADA. This includes changing set points, turning on/off pumps and wells, monitoring chlorine levels, and responding to any system/site alarms. Other duties may include completing related tasks as assigned. Shift work, weekends, holidays, standby duty, and callback duty may be required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school graduation or equivalency
  • Experience: 2 - 4 years' experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions
  • Physical Demands: Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 25 and 50 pounds.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Arizona Class "D" Driver's License upon hire
  • One Grade III Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Certification in Water Treatment upon hire
