Description

This position encompasses the full scope of hematopathology services, providing diagnostic expertise and clinical analysis on tissue specimens. The successful candidate will join other experienced hematopathologists and share responsibilities that include interpretation of bone marrow aspirates and biopsies, peripheral blood smears, and lymphoid tissue specimens. Provide subject matter professional expertise for analyzing diseases within the subspecialty to provide the highest quality, most current and clinically relevant pathologic diagnoses. Hands-on flow cytometric data analysis experience is essential, as well as, the ability to integrate immunohistochemical, cytogenetic, FISH, and molecular genetic results with morphologic and flow cytometric findings.

Responsibilities

  • Morphologically evaluate hematologic and lymphoid processes, integrating clinical data, flow cytometric, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic findings.
  • Incorporate clinical-pathological correlation in reports.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to laboratory personnel as needed.
  • Participate in the educational, clinical research, and developmental efforts of the Hematopathology Division.
  • Assist the national marketing and sales force in maintaining and expanding the referral physician base.
  • Provide consultations for peer Pathologists on cases as requested or needed.
  • Effectively interact and communicate with other departments in the organization (e.g., sales, product development, IT, legal, HR, billing, contracting, client services) to help achieve corporate goals and improve the overall performance of the organization.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor (or equivalent medical professional degree) with fellowship training (or equivalent) in the subspecialty. Subspecialty Board certification when available.
  • Minimum four years of experience post fellowship in Subspecialty.
  • Board Certification in AP or AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology.
  • Subspecialty board certification, if offered by the American Board of Pathology, e.g., for Hematopathology, by the American Board of Hematopathology or American Osteopathic Board of Hematopathology, or for Dermatopathology, the American Board of Dermatopathology or American Osteopathic Board of Dermatopathology.
  • Hold or eligible to obtain unrestricted medical licensure in Texas, Arizona, Massachusetts, Maryland, and other states and maintain CME's.
  • Ability to learn and collaborate with others in a complex, multi-functional, and specialty environment.
  • Working knowledge and experience in using diagnostic and ancillary equipment (microscope, photomicroscope, dictation, computer, etc.).
  • High degree of care and attention to detail in the performance of clinical duties with strict adherence to defined clinical testing protocols.
  • Ability to learn internal software programs and Laboratory Information Systems for purposes of providing routine work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of the Internet for business use.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, purposeful environment.

  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
  • Ability to tolerate extensive periods seated and/or standing for long periods during microscope evaluation.
  • Intense concentration and focus are required.
  • Must possess the ability to perform repetitive motion.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • May have exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes, and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment
  • Willingness to be flexible regarding work hours to ensure proper patient care and other needs of the organization.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.
