Job Description:

The Trade Compliance License Manager position will be responsible for supporting Microchip's Global Trade Compliance (GTC) group and the Licensing Team in particular, and will be a key member of the leadership team for GTC. The Licensing Team has responsibility for determining if a license is needed for a transaction, and then creating and submitting an appropriate application, U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) regulations, and U.S. Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Control International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), as well as International regulations such as UK, EU. In addition, the team is responsible for the timely review of customer due diligence information, including support of our Field Sales and Sales Support teams. The team is also responsible for timely management of the reviews of sales orders that may be subject to export controls, supporting other departments like HR, Business Units, Operations and Logistics, etc. The Licensing Team reviews all End User documentation from Customers, Suppliers, and other partners.

This position will also be an active participant in the team, supporting Microchip daily reports, timely application and release of export holds, and professional leadership of a team of six.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be Microchip's Expert in matters of License Applications

  • Provide support to all business units and manufacturing locations worldwide in matters of Licensing and Due Diligence

  • Create and manage procedures for reviewing customer due diligence information to quickly identify and act on red flags and otherwise clear orders for shipment

  • Create and manage procedures for automated sales order reviews to quickly clear low risk orders for shipment

  • Work closely with business units' partners to address licensing matters, including Outside Licensing Counsel

  • Maintain licensing and due diligence records in accordance with US Government Agencies and company requirements.

  • Support and collaborate with internal business partners to ensure best in class practices are embedded into business functions.

  • Be a key contributor to the Global Trade Compliance team, including developing a close working relationship with other team members

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a Trade Compliance role, focussed on applying for US Export Licenses

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, Export Administration Regulations, and International Trade in Arms Regulations.

  • Functional knowledge of export controls applications such as Visual Compliance, Integration Point, Trade Automation, etc.

  • Proficient with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software such as BAAN, Oracle, AX, etc.

  • Familiarity with other aspects of Trade Compliance such as the CCL (particularly regarding Electronics and Encryption categories), Import regulations, export filing requirements, general procedures for international shipments, etc.

    • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to multitask

    • Strong leadership skills in support of a distributed team

    • Significant attention to detail.

    • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel.

    • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.

    • Overall enthusiasm for departmental success.

    • Exceptional analytical, written, & verbal communication skills.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and people orientated approach.

  • Previous experience managing a small team

  • 5+ years experience in a Semiconductor Manufacturing company is highly desirable

  • Ability to travel on occasion to BU sites within the US and internationally
