Job Description
Job Responsibilities
  • Safely position and unite steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks.
  • Read specifications and blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members. Hoist steel beams, girders, and columns into place using cranes, using hand signals and tag lines.
  • Verify alignment and plumbing of steel structures and make corrections to erected structures as needed.
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts following blueprints using various bolts, nuts, washers and torquing.
  • Weld structural members with consistent quality and safe work practices by understanding and following layouts, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Identify different types and preparation of materials used in structural welding.
  • Understand proper care in handling materials.
  • Identify and use various types of welding tools, wires, and machines.
  • Troubleshoot by understanding blueprints, identifying issues, and taking corrective actions.
  • Perform initial QA/QC checks on finished work to ensure conformance with specifications.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience with layout, connecting and rigging.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in structural welding.
  • Must be able to: Pass an FCAW and SMAW Certification Test for structural welders consisting of 3/8" beveled plate with backing strip, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
  • Proficient in the use of cutting torch, plasma arcs, and cutting machines.
  • The ability to pass non-destructive weld testing (i.e., X-ray, sonogram) is a plus.
  • Ability to work at all heights is a must.
  • Ability to read blueprints, interpret symbols and abbreviations on plans and drawings.
  • Prior rigging experience to include knowledge of hand signals, rigging gear, inspection and proper use.
  • NCCER certification is a plus.
