Position Description:

Throughout the school week, the high school teacher will support students with Social Emotional Learning, earning credits in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Project-Based Learning, and LGBTQ+/Culturally Responsive curriculum.

Spark Community Schools at one-n-ten Teachers cultivate a learning environment where students can be curious, independent, productive, and kind. Our teachers create a safe-space where students are honored and valued for who they are. Teachers assist students attending microschools with learning, supporting students where they are. Our teachers will work in our microschool setting with approximately twelve to fifteen 9th-11th grade students. Teachers support individual student needs with creativity and innovation while respecting all students and families and their access to quality education. Our teachers use high impact instructional practices and motivational techniques to engage students in learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads a blended-age classroom of 12-15 students for 30 hours per week, 180 instructional days and 10 Professional Development days, working a total of 190 days.
  • Maintains an environment of safety and inclusion.
  • Guides students' individualized learning needs.
  • Supports small group activities.
  • Monitors student academic progress.
  • Communicates with parents and families.
  • Motivates students to be excited about learning.
  • Encourages student-led experiential learning.
  • Manages student behavior in a supportive and kind way.
  • Collaborates with other Team Members.
  • Enforces safe-space guidelines consistent with Spark Community Schools and one-n-ten's goals, mission, and values.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience using a computer and online tools (email, websites, video streaming, etc.)
  • Ability to pass a Level 1 background check, drug screening, and obtain an AZ IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Good judgment, discretion, confidentiality
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
  • Experience working with high school age students highly preferred
  • Involvement and/or knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community highly preferred
