Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

CAE is on the lookout for a dynamic Aviation Safety Officer to join our CAE Flight Academy based in Mesa, Arizona!

The Safety Officer assumes a pivotal role in the daily oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS) at designated centers, ensuring comprehensive management of safety-related matters.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Investigate safety reports, assign Event Risk Classification scores, and analyze flight data to promptly identify and implement risk mitigations.
  • Model and cultivate an organizational just culture to encourage best safety practices among pilots.
  • Ensure the effective application and maintenance of CAE's Safety Management System, contributing to continuous improvement in hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes.
  • Provide safety guidance and recommendations to Senior Leadership and the Head of Regional Safety.
  • Present data and analytics reports to staff and students, sharing insights into safety trends and lessons learned.
  • Lead safety training sessions for both staff and students.
  • Engage actively in weekly and monthly Safety Committees, Risk Assessments, and Change Management processes.
  • Conduct follow-up audits on previously completed safety actions.
  • Be available 24/7 when the Emergency Response Plan is activated.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Skills :

  • Possess a 4-year degree or equivalent education with a focus on student pilot-related subjects.
  • Strong aviation background, encompassing roles such as pilot, instructor, maintenance technician, air traffic control, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office PowerPoint and other cloud-based applications.
  • Background in data analysis, programming, or statistics.
  • Exceptional data analytic skills with the ability to convert raw data into visually simplistic graphical representations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, capable of transforming chaos into order.
  • Values a team-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent public speaking and communication skills.
  • Promote a safety-oriented culture through interactions with staff, students, and external parties.
  • Expected to communicate with external parties and workgroups to support SMS objectives.
  • Fluent in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
